A ritual worth keeping.

When my wife was pregnant with our second daughter, caffeine went off the table. I went off it with her. We had been making coffee together every morning for years and I wanted to keep sharing that with her. I also did not want her to have to sacrifice the quality. So we went looking for decaf that actually tasted like something. We could not find it.

We believed great decaf was possible, so we went looking for it. The specialty shops we normally ordered from, the grocery store. Nobody was treating decaf the way it deserved. Great decaf starts with the right sourcing and roasting, and the beans themselves were never the issue. So we started trying to fix it ourselves. During nap times and after bedtime, in a house that already had one small kid in it and another on the way.

Our youngest is almost two. We still make that cup every morning.

My name is Maurice. I live in Oakland with my wife and our two kids. During the day we both have regular jobs. Flower & Moon is what we do with the hours around that. Because we love the craft and we love the coffee.

And we want to share it.

We source from the same farms and producers as the specialty roasters we have always admired. No compromise on the bean just because the caffeine is coming out. Then comes the roast. Decaf beans change during decaffeination in ways that mean the same heat profiles you use for regular coffee will flatten the flavor.

We spent two years building roast profiles specific to decaf before we felt good about sharing what we made. We carry both EA and Swiss Water processed coffees because they each bring something different to the cup, and we would rather let you taste both and make up your own mind. Every batch is roasted to order. We ship on Mondays, out of Oakland.
