On April 6, Coffee Review published its 2026 decaf tasting report and scored our Hibiscus Dream EA Decaf a 93. We have been sitting with that number for a few days now. It still feels good.

What a 93 Means

Kenneth Davids and his panel cupped 86 decaf samples from 60 roasters for this year's report. The average score across the field was 86.3. Only twelve coffees cracked 90 points. Hibiscus Dream is one of them, and we were cited among the report's "Anaerobic Thrillers" alongside a tight handful of roasters pushing what decaf can be.

The blind breakdown: Aroma 9, Acidity 9, Body 8, Flavor 9, Aftertaste 8.

"Buoyant, delicate, sweetly citrusy."

Bergamot, orange blossom, violet, tamarind. Bright and juicy in structure, silky in the mouth, with a finish that stays poised instead of fading. Reading it back still feels a little surreal.

The Coffee Behind the Score

Hibiscus Dream starts at Wilton Benitez's Granja Paraiso 92 in Piendamo, Cauca, Colombia, grown at 2,100 meters. It is 100% Red Bourbon, processed through a double-anaerobic method: whole cherries are sterilized with ozone and UV light, then fermented in sealed tanks with selected yeast strains before drying.

From there, the green coffee is decaffeinated in Colombia using the ethyl acetate sugarcane method, one of the gentlest decaf processes in the world. At this level of green quality, it leaves the personality of the bean almost entirely intact. We roast it light to let every layer of the fruit and florals come forward. On our end: strawberry, hibiscus, sparkling fruit. Brew it as a pour-over and let it bloom.

Why It Matters

Flower and Moon exists for one reason: coffee without a curfew. For years the specialty world treated decaf like the kids' table. This year's Coffee Review report puts numbers behind what we already knew in our cups.

Davids compared four of this year's decaffeinated Wilton Benitez Red Bourbons against their non-decaf counterparts. Decaffeination cost roughly one point on average. One point, for a coffee you can drink at 9 p.m. on a Sunday without trading your sleep for it. We will take that trade every time.

Decaf has grown up. This 93 is proof.
